Shante K. Avant named President and CEO of the Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis - A Letter from President and CEO Shante K. Avant

Shante K. Avant

As the new president and CEO of the Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis (WFGM), I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to YOU. Thank you for your investment, commitment and your belief in our mission as we work to enhance the community and improve the lives of women and children. It’s truly an honor to have been chosen to lead the Foundation.  At WFGM, we believe in the power of philanthropy and how it creates positive intergenerational community change. During my 15-year tenure, this belief has served as an anchor not only for me, but for the entire organization. I am excited to continue to work alongside our Board of Directors, Trustees, staff, and community partners. Without donors like you, we would not be able to continue our work to fulfill our mission and create a community where women and families thrive.

WFGM depends on leadership, philanthropy, and collaboration to improve the economic and social mobility of women and children by investing in programs that help them reach their full potential. Since our founding in 1996, WFGM has invested $35 million in 560 programs involving more than 182 local non-profits—including investments in advocacy and research—which serve 6,000 low-income individuals and families each year.

We know there is still much to be done. The overarching goal of our Vision 2025 strategic plan is to increase investment and reduce poverty in five Memphis neighborhoods over five years. Our work in zip code 38126 serves as the model for our work as we expand to four additional zip codes. Please continue to support us, engage with us, and invite others to share our collective hope for the better, brighter future for our city.
