Investing in Memphis Youth

School’s out — but for too many young people in Memphis, summer brings more than a break. It means fewer safe, enriching spaces to learn, grow, and dream.
At the Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis, we’re committed to changing that. This year, we’re investing $1.8 million in 38 local nonprofit organizations — including 15 focused on Youth Development and Employment.
Because when we invest in youth, we invest in a stronger, more vibrant Memphis.
The Need is Growing—And So Is the Opportunity
Across our community, youth programs are facing devastating funding cuts just as demand is rising. But right now, you have the power to TRIPLE your impact thanks to a generous Challenge Grant from the Hyde Family Foundation and an Anonymous Donor.
Every dollar given by June 30 will be matched 2:1.
Your support fuels programs that provide:
- Leadership and STEM training
- Tutoring and scholarships
- Mentoring and life skills
- Arts, athletics, and job readiness
- Financial literacy and career exploration
Real Impact: Girls Experiencing Engineering (GEE)
One of our grantee partners, Girls Experiencing Engineering at the University of Memphis, is opening doors for underrepresented youth in STEM fields.
GEE by the Numbers:
- 95% of participants go on to college
- Nearly 60% major in STEM, and 28% in engineering
- 85% come from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups
- 87% of high school mentors continue in STEM pathways
One participant shared:
“GEE helped me figure out what I want to do in college… I’ve enjoyed the program so much, I’m now considering becoming an engineer!”
