Youth Opportunities Girls Incorporated PDF Print E-mail

Girls Incorporated of Memphis hosts summer camps that are fun, safe and positive! Youth training and employment are provided during the summer months at five summer camp locations.

Through the summer camps, youth help facilitate a health and wealth program. Participants aged 15-18 years become interns as peer educators for younger campers. The peer-led health and wealth program reduces the communication barriers about human sexuality between girls and their parents. The program also provides factual information pertaining to pregnancy prevention, sexually-transmitted diseases, substance abuse, healthy lifestyles and physical fitness. There are 14 hours of pre-employment training for the interns, which includes leadership skills, health concerns of teens, conflict resolution, group dynamics, the relationship between behavior and healthy lifestyles, network development, developmental characteristics of girls ages 6 to 14 and basic program planning.
