Leadership and the X Factor
“Next to God we are indebted to women, first for life itself,
and then for making it worth living.”
Mary McLeod Bethune
Leadership is an awesome task, role if you will, in our world, nation and local community. All too often when we think about leading, we think about people or a specific individual. But we rarely give much thought about the characteristics or the primary substance of what it takes for one to lead, to show the way or to guide along a path. When it comes to women who go in advance of others we seem to place them in boxes that range from “nurturers” to “iron ladies.” And while we can all perhaps think of women leaders we know who may fit into one or both of these boxes, we hardly think about the essence of the role of leadership.
Dr. Sheila Flemming-Hunter addresses the unique factors of women in leadership the “X Factor” in this compelling article. To read more please click here.
Building Future Leaders to Impact Change
The Women’s Foundation is not just a non-profit grantmaking organization that supports advocacy, but it is also a “learning center” for women to develop their professional interest. WFGM is fortunate to have awesome volunteers, interns and supporters who assist the staff in the day to day operations and various programming needs. Internships are an integral part of the overall mission and strategy to empower women and to transform a community. Our goal is to enhance interns to develop their skills, confidence and professional contacts so as to encourage their professional advancement and their roles in society. At the Women’s Foundation interns are cross trained to carry talents beyond the office and workplace to motivate effective change in the community.
“It is our desire to employ the essential talents that every woman possesses beyond the scope of basic work knowledge and mechanics, into transferable skills and broader relationships…whose contributions move the works of the Women’s Foundation forward.”—Ruby Bright, Executive Director.
