Board Co-Chair Earns National Recognition for Philanthropy

Gina Brewer is one of three national finalists for the Emerging Impact Award in the 17th Annual Invest in Others Awards for her philanthropic contributions to the Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis (WFGM).

The Invest in Others Awards program recognizes the charitable work of financial advisors in communities across the country and around the world.GB headshot There are five award categories: Catalyst, Community Service, Emerging Impact, Lifetime Achievement and Volunteer of the Year. Brewer was selected based on her leadership, dedication, contribution, inspiration, and impact on WFGM and the entire Memphis community. As a finalist, she will receive $25,000 for WFGM, which will increase to $60,000 if selected as the category winner. Awards will be presented on September 20th in Boston and announced on investinothers.org following the event.

Brewer has been a dedicated philanthropist supporting WFGM financially and through her leadership and influence for more than 11 years serving on and leading numerous committees including finance chair, fundraising event co-chair, and grants and programs chair. Currently, she serves as Co-Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

Brewer’s professional expertise and leadership has been an integral part of educating and leading the Foundation as they determine investment strategies for its $1.6 million endowment fund and oversee a $3 million annual operating budget. As Board Co-Chair, she guided the final execution of WFGM’s bold Vision 2020 strategic plan to reduce poverty in the city’s most economically challenged zip code, 38126.

“Gina’s leadership as well as her personal and professional investment to the Foundation is an exemplary reflection of her commitment to making Memphis a better community for all,” said WFGM President and CEO Shante K. Avant. “She has used her time, talent, and treasures to best position the Foundation to improve the lives of thousands of women and children in our city.”

Additionally, under her leadership, the Foundation created and adopted its current Vision 2025 five-year strategic plan to expand its poverty reduction efforts to four additional zip codes in Shelby County. Through the executive-level leadership of Brewer and WFGM’s board of directors, together with grantee and community partners, the Foundation’s success to date includes: 1,730 individuals received job training and were placed in jobs; 53% increase in average annual earned household income for adults; 94 individuals started a business or micro-enterprise and 5,632 young people participated in youth development programs.
