Bingham has served as president of the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors, the International Association of Counseling Services, and the Society of Counseling Psychology of the APA. She is an APA member of Divisions 1, 17, 35, 45, and 51 and serves on the group’s board of educational affairs. Bingham is a founder and one of the organizers of the APA’s National Multicultural Conference and Summit. She was an APA presidential candidate in 2006 with the campaign slogan “Exclusion is Easy, But Inclusion is Power.” Bingham came to the U of M in 1985 as director of the Center for Student Development. She became assistant vice president for student affairs/student development in 1993 and was named vice president for student affairs in 2003. A 1971 graduate of Elmhurst College, she earned her M.A. degree in counseling and guidance and her Ph.D. degree in counseling psychology from The Ohio State University.
