Marjorie Agosin shares her stories and experiences with Chilean women who protested against the terror of Pinochet's regime by creating arpilleras, colorful tapestries that documented the loss of their fathers, husbands and sons who "disappeared" under the dictator's rule. The event is free and open to the public.


Common Ground Memphis

Association of Fundraising Professionals Monthly Luncheon

The topic for this month's luncheon is Effective Grantmaking to Meet Community Needs. Melissa Wolowicz, Director of Grants and Initiatives for the Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, and Lauren Wilson Young, Executive Director of the Kemmons Wilson Family Foundation, will discuss the Grantmakers Forum and answer questions from AFP members regarding the current funding climate. Center for Research on Women Community Issues Forum

Join the Center for Research on Women (CROW) for "Nowhere to Hide: A Look at the Pervasive Atmosphere of Sexual Harassment in Memphis Middle and High Schools." In 2008, CROW, in partnership with the Memphis Area Women's Council, conducted a survey of 590 adolescents in public and private middle and high schools in Shelby County. Over 90 percent of students in the study reported being sexually harassed at least once in their current school. At the forum on April 22 CROW will present its finding and conduct a panel discussion on sexual harassment in schools. For more information, visit www.memphis.edu/crow.
